Shock resistance
Lives in the balance
Diving, as any action sport, is filled with potentially unforeseen hazards, especially when exploring caves, shipwrecks and reefs where wristwatches can easily be exposed to magnetism or shock. To prevent damage the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean is featured with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, whose hardness is second only to diamond. And all Seamaster Planet Ocean watches are powered by Co-Axial movements enhanced with the new Si 14 silicon balance spring that improves shock and magnetism resistance and offers unparalleled reliability.
Although it is one of the smallest components in a mechanical watch movement, the balance spring is also among the most critical, playing an important role in the watch’s precision. To eliminate inaccuracies that can be caused by exposure to everyday shocks to the spring, OMEGA turned to silicon, a completely non-magnetic material with incredible resilience and unmatched stability. This short video reveals how these high-tech wonders are produced.
