René Gruau and the OMEGA-commissioned painting of Cindy Crawford

René Gruau was arguably the most important fashion illustrator of all time. With a few brush strokes, he could communicate the energy, elegance and spirit of fashion.

His first commissions were for the Swiss watch brand Balmain, now a part of Swatch Group, in 1930 when he was only 21 years old. In a fitting bit of symmetry, his last order was for the painting of supermodel Cindy Crawford that was commissioned by OMEGA.

Now a special retrospective of the master’s work is on display in an exhibition at Pampaloni in Miami through 15 February 2013. Among the 25 unseen pieces is the portrait of Cindy Crawford.

The exhibition in Miami will give visitors a chance to see some of the best work by one of the twentieth century’s most important artists. It will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pampaloni is located in the Miami Design District, 91 North East 40 Street, Miami, Florida 33137.
