OMEGA celebrated the Inaugural Oceana Ball with their exhibit surrounding Planet Ocean Movie in New York.

Swiss watchmaker OMEGA celebrated the Inaugural Oceana Ball with their exhibit surrounding Planet Ocean, a film by acclaimed environmentalist, photographer and filmmaker, Yann Arthus-Bertrand.

Guests such as, Chris Hemsworth, Elsa Pataky, Kate Walsh, and Emcee for the evening, Les Stroud enjoyed cocktails in the OMEGA Planet Ocean space at Christie’s in New York.

Narrated by actor Josh Duhamel, Planet Ocean features dazzling aerial and underwater imagery captured in extreme geographical conditions worldwide to deliver a far-reaching assessment of the political and environmental challenges facing our oceans.

Guests got a sneak peak at the new film which will launch on DVD today, April 9th. On hand to introduce the film was Alexandra Cousteau, granddaughter of world famous French explorer and filmmaker Jacques-Yves Cousteau.

The film will be distributed globally by Universal and was completely funded by OMEGA, which commissioned Arthus-Bertrand and his non-profit organization, GoodPlanet, to create a film that would raise awareness of the need to protect the oceans. OMEGA, which invented the first diving watch in 1932, has a long legacy of creating timepieces that help explore, enjoy and now conserve the oceans.

The Inaugural Oceana Ball, raised approximately $1 million in proceeds via the live auction of fantasy lots curated by Oceana, the largest international organization dedicated solely to protecting the world’s oceans. The opportunity to have lunch with President Clinton and Susan & David Rockefeller at Blue Hill at Stone Barns swept the evening sale with a winning bid of $110,000.  All event proceeds directly benefit the protection and restoration of shark populations.
