OMEGA premieres Planet Ocean in Miami

Swiss watchmaker OMEGA celebrates the Miami premier of Planet Ocean, a landmark new environmental documentary directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Michael Pitiot.

The luxury brand hosted a screening and cocktail party with SurfRider at the Adrienne Arsht Center, where notables including Larsa and Scottie Pippen, Chris and Adrienne Bosh, Greg Frehling, Karina Ors, Michelle Pooch and Denise George mingled with director, Yann Arthus-Bertrand.

OMEGA, which invented the first diving watch in 1932, has a long legacy of creating timepieces that help explore, enjoy and now conserve the oceans. With that history in mind, OMEGA funded Planet Ocean and commissioned acclaimed photographer, filmmaker and environmentalist Arthus-Bertrand and his non-profit organization, GoodPlanet, to create a film with the goal of raising awareness of the need to protect the oceans.

The 90-minute documentary, narrated by actor Josh Duhamel and distributed by Universal, also draws on the talents of some of the world’s leading aerial and underwater cinematographers, oceanographers and biologists.

Arthus-Bertrand said of his partnership with OMEGA, "When OMEGA presented me with the Planet Ocean project, I accepted almost immediately; it was time to look at things directly, to illustrate and to denounce the dangers threatening our oceans and therefore our planet. This documentary is not intended to moralize, but rather to raise consciousness."

In addition, the brand created a limited edition watch, the GoodPlanet Planet Ocean, to help promote the film. The watch will launch later this year. OMEGA has committed a portion of the proceeds from the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet to fully fund a project to preserve the mangroves and seagrasses in Southeast Asia and educate the local population about the conservation of these important natural resources that are such a critical part of a balanced eco-system.
The film, which premiered at Earth Summit 2012 in Rio de Janeiro last June, will be made available free of charge to any interested NGO in order to ensure that it reaches the widest possible audience
