NASA Project Manager James Ragan visits Fratellowatches’ Speedy Tuesday event

The Fratellowatches blog site organized a special Speedy Tuesday event at the Space Expo, the European Space Agency’s visitor centre, in Noordwijk in The Netherlands on the 29th of October to celebrate the history of the iconic OMEGA Speedmaster chronograph.

The event, inspired by Fratellowatches’ regular “Speedy Tuesday” blogs, featured a visit from former NASA engineer, James Ragan, the man who in the 1960s was responsible for testing and selecting the Speedmaster for all of NASA’s manned missions. Visitors had a chance to chat with Mr Ragan about the rigorous testing that led to the Speedmaster’s qualification in March of 1965. The chronograph was ultimately used by astronauts on hundreds of space missions including, famously, all six lunar landings. The legacy earned it the nickname The Moonwatch.

There was also a display of the Speedmaster watches that were introduced at Baselworld 2013 along with some fine pieces from the OMEGA Museum in Biel, Switzerland.
