OMEGA Bobsleigh Cup

Back

OMEGA's annual bobsleigh cup took place in St. Moritz today, with star guest Anna Kournikova following in the footsteps of fellow brand ambassadors Michael Schumacher and Martina Hingis to experience the once-in-a-lifetime thrill of a so-called taxi ride down the Olympia Bobrun St. Moritz-Celerina.

Anna was accompanied in the OMEGA bobsleigh by OMEGA President Stephen Urquhart, who was taking part in the competition for the third consecutive year. Numerous other VIP guests had the chance to experience the unique sensation of descending the world's only natural ice channel in bobsleighs driven by the world's elite pilots. OMEGA ambassadors Liliana Campos (Portugal), Sonali Bendre (India), Sanja Papic (Serbia and Montenegro), Somchai Khemglad (Thailand) were joined by prima Bolshoi ballerina Anastasia Volochkova and the first non-Soviet cosmonaut Vladimir Remek (Czech Republic). Many of the 70 media who had travelled from far and wide were also able to enjoy the bobsleigh experience.

The competitive duo of Reto Goetschi and Reto Florin, both highly experience and well-known Swiss bob pilots, vied for the top positions, sharing places 1 to 4 between them. The day's winning team bore the name "TWN", with the two guest riders being Taiwanese journalists Chuan Hung Li and Lin Hsu Hai, piloted by Reto Goetschi with Hubert Gmür as the brakeman. Second place went to the combination of Italian journalist Loredana Caponio and Serbian OMEGA distributor Bran Lazovic, piloted by Reto Florin and with Rico Florin as brakeman. The third-placed bob was also piloted by Reto Goetschi, with Hubert Gmür as the brakeman and the OMEGA guests again coming from Taiwan: none other than the famous Taiwanese actress Kelly Lin and journalist Wen Hsu Hsui. Well worth the long trip for OMEGA's Taiwanese guests, therefore!
