On the occasion of the 2006 OMEGA European Masters, OMEGA presented its exhibition ” From the Moon to the Sun”.
This exhibition introduced the latest challenge Omega has chosen to support: SolarImpulse: flying a solar plane around the world. This remarkable project unites passion and adventure with highly-advanced technological innovations for conceiving a solar airplane capable of taking off autonomously and maintaining its flight for several days with no fuel. In order to do so, the SolarImpulse will have to use the energy accumulated during the day so as to recharge its batteries and to ensure its flight at night.
Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, future pilots of the solar plane came to Crans Montana where they met Omega Ambassador Gene Cernan, last man on the moon. Together they discussed about their personal experiences and Gene gave some advice to Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg. They all visited the exhibition and posed in front of the model of the future SolarImpulse, before tackling the putting area.
Later on, Gene Cernan, Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg took part in the prize-giving ceremony of the Omega Trophy for journalists, where they presented the prices to the journalists who won the competition and who were thrilled to receive their awards from such impressive personalities.
