Back

After his stunning seventh victory at the HSBC World Match Play Championship, South African star Ernie Els will be aiming for an 'HSBC double' when he goes to Shanghai for the Champions tournament from November 8-11.Els showed he is running into form ahead of his trip to China with a 6 and 4 beating of Angel Cabrera in the final of the HSBC World Match Play Championship at Wentworth on Sunday.

US Open champion Cabrera, beaten by Els in the final, is also in the field at the Sheshan International Golf Course, for a tournament dubbed 'Asia's major.'

They will lock horns with the likes of British Open champion Padraig Harrington and world number two Phil Mickelson, Fiji's Vijay Singh and Spanish star Sergio Garcia.

Els, who has moved to world number four with his record breaking seventh victory at Wentworth, will be teeing up at the HSBC Champions for the first time.

He said: 'I am really looking forward to playing in the HSBC Champions – I have heard great things about it from my colleagues on the Tour. With the strength of field and the substantial prize money on offer, it is a very important event to include in my schedule as I aim to head back up both the World and European Tour rankings."

The 'Big Easy' was certainly relieved to return to winning ways after a series of near misses in Europe and America this season.

'To get a win, and to play the way I did this week, is really satisfying. And hopefully this will, you know, open up the doors for me, basically, for some other wins,' said Els. Els and the other golfing stars from the leading golf tours and players ranked in the world's top 50 will be playing for total prize money of $5 million. . (www.hsbcgolf.com)
