Hangzhou celebrates the Olympic Countdown - 88 days to go!

Back

OMEGA welcomed guests and VIPs to two celebrity-packed events in Hangzhou on the 12th of May, exactly 88 days before the start of the Olympic Games in Beijing on August 8th. The first was the grand opening of the Hangzhou GDA Flagship Shop. More than 100 visitors watched as OMEGA executives and celebrity guests Luo Xuejuan and Li Quan cut the ceremonial ribbon outside the shop.

The special day was also dedicated to the Minus 88 point in the Olympic countdown calendar. OMEGA launched some limited edition watches to mark the day and these were introduced and displayed prominently at the event.

Later, Luo Xuejuan, the legendary Olympic swimmer and 2004 gold medallist in the breaststroke and Li Quan, one of China’s most popular songwriter/producers were introduced to a warm welcome. Inside the shop, the two celebrities autographed a poster featuring the Olympic Countdown Minus 88 theme.

The second event, which was dedicated to the Olympic Countdown milestone of Minus 88 days and to the Hangzhou Olympic road show, took place at the Hangzhou Tower.

Following a video introduction of OMEGA’s Olympic activities, the master of ceremonies, Wang Zi, introduced Omega China vice president Carlos Cardenas, Mr. Tong, the Chairman of Hangzhou Tower and Mr. Huang, the Vice President of the Xin Yu Group. The three gave speeches of welcome to the audience.

After Li Quan sang his song, “How Time Flies”, a video featuring Luo Xuejuan was shown to the audience before the swimmer joined Li Quan on stage for an informal chat.

Carlos Cardenas presented special Minus 88 OMEGA watches to the two celebrities who were then joined onstage by all the VIPs for the official opening of the Hangzhou exhibition. The display gives visitors a chance to see firsthand some of the innovative timekeeping equipment OMEGA will be using in its role as Official Timekeeper and data handler for the Olympic Games.
