Back

Eugene Cernan, the former astronaut and the last man to walk on the Moon, was in Portugal to help OMEGA launch its Speedmaster Apollo 11 “40th Anniversary “ Limited Edition chronograph wristwatch. Here he is joined by Portugese-American actor Joaquim Almeida at a cocktail party hosted by the Swiss watchmaker.

Cernan is helping OMEGA commemorate the first lunar landing which took place on the 21st of July 1969. On that day, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first men to walk on the Moon and the OMEGA Speedmaster strapped to Aldrin’s spacesuit was the first watch to be worn there. Speedmasters have been worn on each of NASA’s piloted missions since May of 1963.

Cernan walked on the Moon in December of 1972. No human being has been there since.
