Olympic gold medallist Amy Williams honoured by OMEGA and Buzz Aldrin

Back

Amy Williams, the Olympic gold medallist in the ladies skeleton event, was a special guest at a cocktail party hosted by OMEGA, the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games.

Ms. Williams, who is Great Britain’s first individual Olympic Winter Games gold medallist in thirty years, was presented with an OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean wristwatch by Dr. Buzz Aldrin, an OMEGA brand ambassador who carved his name in history when he and his colleague Neil Armstrong landed on the Moon in July of 1969.

Upon receiving the watch from the second man to walk on the Moon, Amy Williams said, "I’m so honoured with this special tribute from OMEGA. The company is closely attuned to the Olympic Movement and I am thrilled to share this moment with them. It has been made even more special by the fact that the watch was presented by Buzz Aldrin."

Dr. Aldrin was impressed by Ms.  Williams’ Olympic performance, saying, "Amy has been so dedicated to her sport and she has shown us that the determination and sacrifice was worth it. I’m delighted to present this watch to a truly outstanding young woman."

Ms. Williams’ gold medal was only the ninth that Great Britain has won in the history of the Olympic Winter Games. Her winning run at the Whistler Sliding Centre last Friday was the fastest ever recorded on the track.

OMEGA is serving in its capacity as Official Olympic Timekeeper for the 24th time and announced in September that it had extended its association with the International Olympic Committee through 2020.
