After winning by eight shots for a -13 total, Rory McIlroy was presented with the OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean timepiece to commemorate his win at the 94th PGA Championship, which concluded Sunday evening at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island.
McIlroy won his second major championship with scores of 67-75-67-66=275 (-13). The 23-year-old posted six birdies and zero bogies in the final round. He completed his round with a 25-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole for the eight-shot victory over David Lynn, breaking the PGA Championship record for margin of victory that Jack Nicklaus set in 1980.
The native of Northern Ireland returned to No. 1 in the world, and he became the youngest player since Seve Ballesteros to win two majors. Tiger Woods was about four months older than McIlroy when he won his second major. McIlroy, who earned $1,445,000 for his victory, also won the 2011 U.S. Open by eight shots.
Following the Wanamaker Trophy presentation, the OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean timepiece was presented to McIlroy by President of The PGA of America Allen Wronowski.
“In our second year as a sponsor of the PGA of America, we are pleased to present this exceptional timepiece to Rory McIlroy after this dominating win at the 94th PGA Championship,” said OMEGA President Mr. Stephen Urquhart. “We want to congratulate Rory on his outstanding play at Kiawah Island and look forward to presenting additional OMEGA watches to the future winners of this remarkable championship.”
The 94th PGA Championship marked the second major championship of OMEGA’s partnership with The PGA of America, which provides for multiple “Official Timekeeper” designations and represents a major breakthrough for OMEGA in the sport of golf in the United States. The 95th PGA Championship, where OMEGA will again serve as Official Timekeeper, will be held at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y. In September, OMEGA will sponsor its first Ryder Cup as part of its relationship with the PGA of America.
