The brand ambassador leads the World Cup rankings by 35 points after the first meet
OMEGA brand ambassador and South African swimming sensation Chad le Clos made history once again after setting a new world record in the short-course 200-metre butterfly event at the first meet of the FINA Swimming World Cup in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Wednesday.
The world record for the short-course race was set 1:49.11 in 2009 and Chad finished his race .07 seconds faster, clocking a time of 1:49.04. Following the first of seven events in the World Cup, Chad is ranked first with 74 points, 39 points ahead of Hungarian swimmer Daniel Gyurta in second place.
Chad’s most recent gold medal comes just after he claimed two world titles in the 100-metre and 200-metre butterfly events at the FINA World Championships in Barcelona last week.
