On his way to THE TOUR Championship in Augusta, Georgia, PGA pro and OMEGA Ambassador, Ernie Els took time out of his busy practice schedule to co-host a lavish cocktail reception with Swiss watchmaker OMEGA on the landmark grounds of the prestigious Atlanta History Center.
The evening was a celebration of past and present legends of golf and focused on the Center's award-winning golf exhibit, Down the Fairway with Bobby Jones, which traces Georgia's incredible golf history from course development and tournament play to women in the game and the integration of public courses. Upon his arrival, Mr. Els, one of golf's current legends, met with a number of OMEGA's invited guests and was then treated to a personal tour of Down the Fairway with Bobby Jones given by the exhibit's Curator, Kathryn Lewis. Joining them midway into the tour was the evening's guest of honor and one of the most significant figureheads in amateur golf today, Mr. Charles R. Yates. Serving as Secretary of Augusta National for nearly 50 years, the 87-year old Yates is truly a living golf legend. In recognition of the significant contributions, time and exemplary service he has provided to the world of golf over the last 5 decades, Mr. Els presented Mr. Yates with an OMEGA Constellation Chronograph during a small ceremony. In return, Mr. Yates thanked OMEGA for honoring him and also recognized Mr. Els, who he referred to as "golf royalty", for his fine sportsmanship and wished him continued excellence in his golf game. To close the ceremony, Mr. Els also presented Kathryn Lewis with a signed, OMEGA Constellation Chronograph that will be used as a silent auction item at the Center's upcoming Annual Bobby Jones Dinner, a major charity fundraiser that benefits the Bobby Jones exhibit. During the rest of the three-hour reception, guests, including over 150 OMEGA area retailers, Atlanta History Center patrons and golf aficionados, enjoyed cocktails and a lavish display of sumptuous hors d'oeuvres as a live, jazz quartet played in the background. Guests were also free to leisurely peruse all of the exciting golf memorabilia on display in the Center's Down the Fairway with Bobby Jones exhibit, which is the story of the man considered to be the most important golfer in the history of the sport, Bobby Jones. Photographs and personal artifacts displayed in the exhibit follow his life through his incomparable number of tournament wins, family, successful business career, and ongoing dedication to the game. For over 150 years, OMEGA has built an unmatched reputation for precision, endurance and leading edge technology and has continued to receive the most coveted awards for beauty and design. In the last few years, OMEGA's family of star Ambassador's has grown to include such luminaries as Cindy Crawford, Pierce Brosnan, Martina Hingis and Anna Kournikova.
