OMEGA goes with the wind as official sponsor of Rrose Sselavy in the classic Mediterranean regattas

Back

OMEGA unfurls its sails, announcing its sponsorship of the Rrose Sselavy, the highly successful yacht which will be competing in the most well-known regattas in the Mediterranean. The Swiss brand thus takes on an active role in a prestige international competition that ideally complements the elegance, precision and quality of its product.

Following its spectacular victory in the Zegna Trophy in Portofino (4 - 6 May), the vessel will be taking part in the Settimana dei tre Golfi in Naples and Capri (27 May - 3 June), St. Tropez (18 - 21 June) and Porto Cervo (2 - 8 September).

Designed by German Frers, Rrose Sselavy is a Wally Frers 65ft (20 metres) with a split sloop. One of the latest generation of vessels in the IMS category, it is the culmination of a design project by the "father" of the America's Cup, Moro di Venezia. Its skipper is Riccardo Bonadeo, with Mauro Pelaschier as helmsman.

OMEGA, the prestige Swiss watchmaker, is launching an exclusive watch to commemorate the sponsorship: the Seamaster Professional 300m.

The name OMEGA Seamaster has been around for over 50 years and continues to represent OMEGA's competence and professionalism in the highly demanding field of extremely reliable divers' watches. In line with the development of underwater research and the sport of diving, OMEGA constantly improved the technical standards of this watch collection. As early as the 1970s, the Seamaster 600m, specially developed for the diving research institute Ocean Systems, passed tests carried out by Commander Cousteau at depths of 500 metres and also proved to be perfectly reliable at simulated depths of 1000 metres. The biggest legends of underwater research and the world's best divers - including well-known free-diver Jacques Mayol - have for decades relied on OMEGA's precise and reliable timepieces for their deep-sea adventures.

OMEGA was Official Timekeeper of the 2000 America's Cup, paying tribute to the world's most important sailing competition. On this occasion, the Swiss watchmaker created a special limited edition watch dedicated to the race: The Seamaster Professional Diver "America's Cup". A dynamic and elegant watch which combines sport and technology, designed in conjunction with one of the twentieth century's most extraordinary sailors, Sir Peter Blake, OMEGA ambassador and head of the title-holding "Team New Zealand".

The Seamaster Professional 300m is characterised by its black dial and bezel with a black rubber strap and steel foldover clasp. It is also available with a steel bracelet with a black or blue dial. The striking wave imprint on the dial and the unmistakable unidirectional turning bezel with minute scale are found on all models in the collection. Domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal, luminous hour markers and skeleton hands with Super Luminova inserts are also standard equipment, as are the screw-in crown and case back. As a feature for professional divers, all Gents' and Mid-Size models are equipped with a helium escape valve.
