Prestige watch manufacturer OMEGA exclusively previewed its latest masterpiece, the OMEGA Central Tourbillon, in Shanghai at the glamorous "M on the Bund" restaurant. To mark this unique moment in OMEGA history, master watchmaker Mathias Schoepke was brought in especially from Switzerland to introduce the unique features of the Central Tourbillon.
With typical OMEGA elegance, VIP customers in Shanghai were treated to a special preview of the Central Tourbillon collection, musical performances and informative lectures from Mr Schoepke on the history behind the watch and its performance. The preview party was very well received, attracting both prominent watch media and the most discerning watch buyers in Shanghai.
Several senior members of The Swatch Group, the world's largest watchmaker and OMEGA's parent company, were also on hand to celebrate the moment, along with a host of local celebrities and media. Special guests included Mr Stephen Urquhart, President of OMEGA, Mr Kevin Rollenhagen, Vice President of OMEGA China and HK, and Dr. Lee Wen Po, Managing Director of The Swatch Group for Greater China.
Celebrity guests included popular television host Mr Lin Dong Fu, and Mr Chang Yi the CEO of Liuligongfang and his wife, former movie star Yang Wei San. Master of ceremonies for the evening was Ms Yuan Ming, a presenter from Shanghai Television.
Renowned Chinese pianist Mr Kong Xiang Dong also joined the festivities, presenting a virtuoso performance of his self-composed celebratory piece the "Music of Tourbillon". Kong's mellifluous notes and skilful dexterity enhanced the event's sophisticated appeal and provided the ideal counterpoint for Mr Schoepke's lecture, which in itself revealed the skill and craftsmanship behind another rare opus, the OMEGA Central Tourbillon.
The highlights of the Shanghai gala also included a special presentation by Mr Urquhart of a certificate marking the first purchase of the RMB$600,000 OMEGA Central Tourbillon in China to Mr and Mrs Che Rong.
Despite being developed over 200 years ago, the tourbillon mechanism remains the very pinnacle of the watchmaker's art. To this day, tourbillon watches still have to be painstakingly handcrafted due to their extreme complexity and are therefore highly exclusive due to the limited numbers produced each year.
