OMEGA celebrates first ever Flagship Stores in Hong Kong with another first: the OMEGA Rouge

Back

Prestige international watchmaker OMEGA celebrated the recent launch of its first Flagship Stores in Hong Kong with an exclusive visit from the world-famous Moulin Rouge cabaret: this was the first time in its 114-year history that the group had ever performed in Hong Kong. As well as enacting its signature cancan dance in front of one of the Flagship stores at 12, Canton Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, the troupe was also the star feature at a dazzling gala event – the OMEGA Rouge – at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The inauguration celebrations also provided the opportunity for OMEGA to launch an extensive charity programme in support of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

On 23 August, the sixteen-member troupe (including fifteen female dancers and one male) from the Moulin Rouge arrived at the new Flagship Store on Canton Road on rickshaws and were treated to an authentic Chinese Lion Dance before performing their unique French cancan dance in front of the store.

The entertaining occasion was also used to announce OMEGA's association with UNICEF. Fron August 22-24, OMEGA donated 25% of the proceeds from every watch and Bijoux sale from its Canton Road Flagship Store to the international children's charity. OMEGA President Stephen Urquhart also confirmed that as an added fundraising incentive, the leading watchmaker had reserved the limited edition collection of its newest Speedmaster for exclusive sale in Hong Kong. OMEGA ambassador QiQi supported the good works of UNICEF worldwide by becoming the first owner of one of a strictly limited series of 50 of these special timepieces.

This latest ladies' Speedmaster model, with a 35.5mm case diameter, is a direct descendant of the famous Moon Watch: the Speedmaster Professional Chronograph, the only watch that is flight-qualified by NASA for use in outer space. Equipped with calibre 3220, this jewel-encrusted self-winding mechanical chronograph movement with Geneva wave décor and rhodium-plated finish, has a power reserve of 40 hours and is water-resistant to 30m. The theme for the model is the colour red, which links the famous red windmill of the Moulin Rouge with the house colour of OMEGA. This striking colour is used for the shiny alligator leather strap of the watch and is also subtly reflected in the Arabic numerals in the mother-of-pearl dial.

On 24 August, the launch events culminated in the OMEGA Rouge extravaganza, with an exclusive guest performance by the Moulin Rouge troupe. The event was attended by numerous VIPS including OMEGA ambassadors Simon Yam, QiQi and Richie Jen and Mr Kevin Rollenahgen, Vice President for OMEGA Hong Kong and China. The event organisers were proud to welcome the Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF, Mrs Anson Chan, and OMEGA President Stephen Urquhart was delighted to present the charity with a cheque for $500 000.

The brand is delighted at the phenomenal success of one of its most colourful launch events which championed such a worthy cause. OMEGA President Mr Urquhart said, "OMEGA has opened two new flagship stores in Hong Kong in recent months (the store in Canton Road and the store in Hong Kong International Airport), which reflects the importance of the local market to OMEGA and also the high standard of watch appreciation in Hong Kong and China. OMEGA Rouge commemorates these exciting new OMEGA developments and the launch of our latest pieces like the Bijoux collection and Speedmaster Ladies Red Strap. Bringing the Moulin Rouge - an organization that, like OMEGA, has a reputation for perfect timing and stylish performance - to Hong Kong for its debut, is the ideal entertainment to accompany these latest milestones. To be able to celebrate this multifaceted occasion, all while supporting UNICEF, only adds to the ideal nature of the occasion."
