The Calibre 24’’’ CHROR, 1932

OMEGA acquired Lémania Lugrin in 1932 and the acquisition was quickly rewarded. Lémania specialized in movements with special functions, including chronograph complications. One of these made history at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Designer: Alfred Meylan, Lémania

Description: With the acquisition in 1932 of the company Lémania Lugrin in L’Orient in Vallée de Joux, OMEGA added a range of high-precision watches with complicated functions to its sports timekeeping collection. This started with the famous 24’’’ calibre CHROR (53.7 mm diameter), which had a bimetallic balance with gold screws. This precision balance equipped the equally precise split-second chronograph that recorded to either 1/5th or 1/10th of a second.

These were the chronographs selected to be the official timekeepers of the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games. It was the first time a single company had been entrusted with the timing of every event at an Olympic Games and it marked the beginning of OMEGA’s long, successful association with the Olympic Movement.
