Inspired by the image of a frozen drop, the silver “Bolshoy” Ice Dome will be home to one of the most popular Olympic winter sports: Ice hockey. The venue seats 12,000 spectators and will serve as an ultra-modern multipurpose sports and entertainment centre following the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

While the venue is currently located in the heart of Sochi’s Coastal Cluster, it is moveable and following the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games the Iceberg Skating Palace will be dismantled and transported to another Russian city where it will be used as a skating centre.

In February and March 2014, the Russian Federation will host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in the city of Sochi, located on the shores of the Black Sea near the Caucasus Mountains. Construction of the modern infrastructure and brand new venues make this among one of the greatest building projects ever associated with an Olympic Games. During the 2012-2013 winter season, more than 20 international test events in all 15 Olympic disciplines and five Paralympic disciplines will take place in Sochi.
The Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will be the most compact in the history of the Olympic Movement – the Organizing Committee aims to keep the distances between arenas, as well as between the Mountain and Coastal Clusters, short and handicap accessible.
