OMEGA and The PGA of America
For years, OMEGA has worked actively to promote golf as a global sport. A new partnership with The PGA of America means that OMEGA is helping grow the game all over the world.
OMEGA has been named the Official Timekeeper of The PGA of America through 2016. The five-year agreement represents a major breakthrough for OMEGA in the world of golf and furthers the brand's rich history in sports timekeeping.
The first tournament under the new partnership will be the 2011 PGA Championship which takes place from August 8 – 14 at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia. It will extend through The PGA of America's Centennial in 2016.
As Official Timekeeper, OMEGA will be responsible for the on-course venue timekeeping at all PGA of America events, including the PGA Championship, the Senior PGA Championship, the PGA Cup, the PGA Professional National Championship, the Ryder Cup when it is contested in the United States and the Junior Ryder Cup. Permanent OMEGA clocks will be installed at PGA-owned facilities.
“With our tournaments in Europe and Asia, OMEGA has long supported the growth of golf as a global game," said Stephen Urquhart, president of OMEGA, "and we are looking forward to being involved in the great events organized by The PGA of America. This partnership also gives us a fantastic platform to develop the brand in the important American market."
In addition to its new role as Official Timekeeper of The PGA of America, the brand has long supported the sport of golf internationally, serving as title sponsor of the European Masters, the Dubai Desert Classic and Ladies' Open and the World Cup of Golf. OMEGA’s roster of brand ambassadors includes a number of current golf stars – Sergio Garcia, Michelle Wie and S.Y. Noh – and one of the game’s all-time greats, Greg Norman.
As the brand expands its presence in the world of golf with the new partnership with The PGA of America, it has also been increasing its retail presence in the United States aggressively. In the coming months it will be adding nine new OMEGA flagship boutiques in the USA to the 16 it has opened recently.
