Design

Design excellence has been a defining part of OMEGA from the company’s earliest days. The brand is proud of the fact that it has won awards for its design nearly as often as it has won accuracy competitions.

The art of design

Aesthetic inspiration and innovative design are not only reserved for OMEGA’s historic timepieces. The newly redesigned Constellation line retains its characteristic identifying features in a stylish contemporary update. The Seamaster Aqua Terra Collection with its distinctive “Teak Concept” dials is as fashionable as it is sporty. The Speedmaster is the world’s favourite chronograph and one of the most imitated watches ever produced.

Drawing

The concept is interpreted by our designers, who present the first drawings to OMEGA’s management. Once a decision has been taken concerning the main aesthetic aspects, the new OMEGA watch is then created as a 3D model on the computer by our designers together with our engineers in order to avoid design proposals which are not technically feasible.

Casting

The very first prototype is made by a special 3-D printer and for the first time, the designers’ drawing is brought to life, giving a real sense of how their creativity might be expressed as an OMEGA watch. Most of the aesthetic details are defined during this period.

Prototyping

After the casting, our suppliers are included in the next stage of the development process, where decisions are taken on such matters as the choice of materials and the colours to be used for the dial and the hands. The first prototypes are then produced and submitted to our management and our markets for approval.

Final Product

Once the new watch, and in particular its movement, has passed quality control and been thoroughly tested, production can start.

As you thumb through an OMEGA catalogue or navigate through the range of OMEGA watches on this website, you will be struck by the variety. There is the radical Seamaster Ploprof 1200M which, as its name suggests, is water resistant to 1200 metres. There are the Constellations with their iconic “griffes” or claws. There is the Speedmaster Professional, which has been part of every NASA piloted mission for more than 45 years, including all six lunar landings. There are the stylish, elegant De Villes.

These and all the other watches we create are part of a proud design tradition which has been among OMEGA’s defining values since 1848.
