OMEGA Quality
OMEGA’s dedication to quality starts long before the production begins. Quality is considered from the moment a new idea is born and remains an important theme throughout the entire development period.
Quality is a hallmark of every OMEGA watch. All the materials used in the creation of each component – from the smallest screw in the movement to the metal used in the cases – are examined in minute detail before being allowed into the production process. And these processes are carefully optimized to ensure the quality of every watch.
The Movement
Each new Omega movement has to pass a range of strict tests. The movements are “wrist tested” in existing Omega models by our Technical Development Department. At the same time, laboratory tests are conducted to determine temperature-, shock- and vibration-resistance. The precision of the movement is also painstakingly tested.
Co-Axial quality
OMEGA’s Co-Axial calibres are setting new quality standards for series-production wristwatches. The design of the Co-Axial escapement means that there is little sliding friction between the components and almost no need for lubrication. This has led to chronometric performance unmatched by any other serially produced mechanical wristwatch. It has also resulted in a reduced need for servicing.
The Case
Once a prototype of a new case has been produced, it is subjected to rigorous testing (e.g. water-resistance) by our Quality Assurance department. The decision on whether to manufacture a new case is only taken if the new prototype passes all its tests.
Dial and Hands
The ultraviolet test is particularly important for new hands and dials, since the resistance of the new materials to light must be guaranteed.
Bracelets and straps
Like any new movement, new Omega bracelets and straps are subjected to “wear tests” to demonstrate their comfort. They also have to pass stringent mechanical tests to prove their durability.
