SOLAR IMPULSE FLIES INTO THE FUTURE

Ten years after its partnership with OMEGA began, the pioneering team of Solar Impulse made history by completing its flight around the world in an aircraft fuelled only by solar energy. The mission flew for a total of 21 days during its 17-leg journey and set a number of world records, including the record for a solo endurance flight (117 hours and 51 minutes from Japan to Hawaii).

As a main partner of the project, OMEGA was proud to contribute several key technologies that helped the pilots Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg achieve their goal. Perhaps its greatest achievement, however, was the project’s ability to inspire and to prove that there are viable, clean alternatives to fossil fuels.

“Our airplane is not designed to carry passengers, but to carry a message.” – Bertrand Piccard, pilot and explorer
