Description

OMEGA’s Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon "Meteorite" is an innovative addition to the Speedmaster collection.

This timepiece is not only ready for adventure but is also stylish beyond compare. The grey ceramic case is complemented by 18K Sedna™ gold Moonwatch-style hands and an 18K Sedna™ gold bezel with a silicon nitride ring and brushed OMEGA Ceragold™ tachymeter scale.

The Meteorite dial is made from a solid piece of ancient, extra-terrestrial stone that has been acid etched to reveal a unique pattern on each watch.

Reminiscent of its legendary predecessors, the Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon "Meteorite" has a 60-minute and 12-hour recorder at 3 o’clock and a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock. OMEGA’s Co-Axial calibre 9300 can be seen through the bevelled sapphire crystal caseback.

It is presented on a grey leather strap with a traditional ardillon buckle.

SednaTM Gold

OMEGA has been using the exclusive 18K SednaTM Gold, its own fiery rose gold alloy, since 2012. Named after Sedna, an orbiting planetoid that has been described as one of the reddest in the solar system, SednaTM Gold not only bears all the standard characteristics of other 18K golds, but it also offers high resistance to the fading of colour and lustre over time. Its unique composition includes copper and palladium for colour and stability.

Ceramic

OMEGA has unrivalled expertise in the use of ceramics, dating back more than 10 years. Taking its origin from the Greek word "keramos", ceramic is an inorganic, non-metallic substance obtained by firing at high temperatures. It allows the creation of completely dense watch parts with exceptional mechanical properties. Ceramic is one of the most popular choices for customers when selecting their timepiece, thanks to its appealing colour range and specific properties, such as it being two times lighter than stainless steel, hardwearing, highly scratch-resistant, chemically inert, hypoallergenic, environmentally friendly and non-magnetic.

Meteorite

Meteorites are extra-terrestrial stones, mainly containing iron. With OMEGA's unrivalled connection to space, the use of this material is particularly appropriate. Iron meteorite is prized by designers for its criss-cross Widmanstätten pattern, which refers to the ribbon-like flecks that are revealed after special processing. This kind of meteorite, however, is not suitable for Master Chronometer certified watches, due to its magnetic iron content. For OMEGA's Master Chronometer timepieces, lunar meteorites with irregular stone patterns are used instead.

Sapphire Crystal

To really appreciate the finer details of a timepiece, OMEGA uses synthetic sapphire crystal with a highly scratch-resistant and anti-reflective treatment. Before the machining and finishing processes take place, the sapphire crystals are produced under the Verneuil process, also called flame fusion. It involves the melting of the raw substance using oxyhydrogen flame and the crystallisation of the melted droplets to form a cylinder. Graded 9 on the Mohs-hardness scale (graded 1-10), the resulting sapphire crystals are virtually scratch-proof and very hard, ensuring an unhindered vision at all times.
