For this ambitious 47.50 mm timepiece, an original 18’’’ CHRO calibre was retrieved from the vaults at the OMEGA museum. Dating from 1913, it is the exact same movement used in OMEGA’s first ever wrist-chronographs.

Through a special and dedicated process, the prized calibre was delicately refurbished by the experts at OMEGA’s Atelier de Tourbillon and given a new lease of life, subsequently being named as the new OMEGA calibre 3018.

For the outside design, OMEGA has closely followed the traditional look of an OMEGA wrist-chronograph from 1913, with classic details such as the riveted leather strap and the white enamel dial with blued “Empire” hands and hollow Arabic numerals.

Modern materials have also been included, such as 18K white gold for the case, and 18K Sedna™ gold for the crown and pusher. The classic design also features a hatched caseback, which can be flipped open to reveal the movement positioned behind sapphire-crystal. Only 18 of these Limited Edition chronographs have been made.

SednaTM Gold

OMEGA has been using the exclusive 18K SednaTM Gold, its own fiery rose gold alloy, since 2012. Named after Sedna, an orbiting planetoid that has been described as one of the reddest in the solar system, SednaTM Gold not only bears all the standard characteristics of other 18K golds, but it also offers high resistance to the fading of colour and lustre over time. Its unique composition includes copper and palladium for colour and stability.

White Gold

Gold in its pure form (24K) is slightly reddish yellow and very soft. It is usually alloyed with other base metals for a diverse variety of uses. Considered to be the premium standard in watch and jewellery making, 18K gold(with at least 75% pure gold) provides the ultimate balance between purity and usefulness. Traditional 18K white gold is alloyed with palladium-copper and offers an excellent resistance to corrosion, while being highly bio-chemically inert. It provides a beautiful hue that suits wearers even with sensitive skin.

Sapphire Crystal

To really appreciate the finer details of a timepiece, OMEGA uses synthetic sapphire crystal with a highly scratch-resistant and anti-reflective treatment. Before the machining and finishing processes take place, the sapphire crystals are produced under the Verneuil process, also called flame fusion. It involves the melting of the raw substance using oxyhydrogen flame and the crystallisation of the melted droplets to form a cylinder. Graded 9 on the Mohs-hardness scale (graded 1-10), the resulting sapphire crystals are virtually scratch-proof and very hard, ensuring an unhindered vision at all times.
