The Grand Final of the 2003 OMEGA Swiss Golf Trophies

The moment had come. The winners of the twelve rounds of the 2003 OMEGA Swiss Golf Trophies could finally embark upon the challenge for which they had been waiting with anticipation: the Grand Final in Crans-Montana, organised so as to coincide with the OMEGA European Masters 2003 which was taking place at the same venue.

The OMEGA Swiss Golf Trophies is an event which reflects OMEGA's commitment to golf at local as well as at international level. Over the past summer months, leading watchmaker OMEGA has co-organised Trophies around Switzerland, in conjunction with its retailers and a number of well-known golf clubs. The standard of play throughout the series has been impressive and this, coupled with the fact that numerous VIP guests from the media and the world of commerce had also been invited to play in the event, meant that the Grand Final promised to be a spectacular occasion.

The match got off to a very early start as contestants stepped out onto the Jack Nicklaus 9-hole course in the Golf Club Crans-sur-Sierre. After the overwhelming heat of the summer months, it was somewhat refreshing to be able to play in the cool autumnal breeze. Winners of the past 12 Trophies mingled with VIP guests, including Mr Andreas Zgraggen , Editor in Chief of the Berner Zeitung, Ms Mirjam Fassold, from Die Sudostschweiz Zeitung, Mr Markus Koechli from the Handelszeitung and Mr Roger Semprini, CEO of Siemens, and his wife, Sonja. All 45 participants enjoyed an excellent day's golf.

A special prize-giving ceremony in the OMEGA VIP Hospitality tent was arranged by the Grand Final organisers, Mr Kurt Mueller and Mrs Pina Lombardi from OMEGA Marché Suisse. In second place was Marc Dobias, a junior from the Golf Club Lausanne, who clearly has a tremendous golfing career ahead of him. Marc is currently ranked 2nd in the Swiss under-18s and is 4th in Europe in the equivalent category. The overall winner of the whole series of Trophies was Mr Reto Aeberhard. His outstanding performance earnt him the first prize of a place at the OMEGA European Masters gala dinner, also attended by star OMEGA ambassadors Cindy Crawford, Estelle Lefebure, Sergio Garcia and Ernie Els. Mr Aeberhard's prize also included a two days pass to watch the OMEGA European Masters golfing action and a night's accommodation in a luxury hotel in Crans.

OMEGA was delighted at the success of this year's Swiss Golf Trophies: not only in terms of the quality of golf played and excellent sporting atmosphere at every match, but also because of the very real boost in sales that the event generated in Switzerland. OMEGA thanks all of the golf clubs and the retailers who participated in the organisation of the 2003 Trophies and looks forward to continuing success in 2004.
