Ellen MacArthur visits Omega Traunsee sailing week

Record-breaking solo round-the-world yachtswoman landed on the Traunsee on board an Omega Seamaster seaplane to a hero's welcome. She held a press conference about her record-breaking voyage, presented the Austrian Olympic Committee's youth sailing team, which is supported by Omega Austria and presented the special Omega Traunsee watch 2005, limited to 25 pieces, for each of which 100 euros is donated to the Traunsail project for the development of sailing in the region

Ellen talked to the Austrian press about her record-breaking voyage and stressed the importance of team work. "Even when you're sitting on the boat alone for more than two months crossing the world's oceans, you always need a strong team behind you to make such a project possible in the first place," said the yachtswoman.

MacArthur later fielded questions from the crowd of 200 that had gathered to see her and subsequently officially opened the Omega Traunsee week by hoisting the flags and firing the official starting gun.

Omega Traunsee Week

The Traunsee week is devised along the same lines as the Kiel Week and aims to be Austria's flagship sailing event. More than 250 yachts from 10 countries take part in regattas in 13 different boat classes. For the first time ever since the event started, due to the considerable number of entrants all sailing clubs on the Traunsee - SCE (Segelclub Ebensee), SCT (Segelclub Traunkirchen), SCA (Segelclub Altmunster), UYCT (Union Yachtclub Traunsee) - have been incorporated into the event and will use their excellent know-how to make the event unique.
