Omega ambassador Sergio Garcia supports young Swiss golf talents

Crans-Montana, 14 September – A dream came true for a group of Swiss youngsters today when they had a chance to play golf with Sergio Garcia, the international brand ambassador of Omega and winner of last week’s Omega European masters tournament in Crans-Montana.

Together with sailing and the Olympic Games, golf is one of the main sports in the sponsorship portfolio of Swiss watch brand Omega. The company’s involvement includes the official timekeeping for the US PGA Tour, sponsorship of several events in the UK on the European Tour, as well as title sponsorship of the Omega European Masters, Switzerland’s second biggest sporting event. The immense success of the Omega European Masters 2005 has confirmed that golf’s popularity is rapidly gaining impetus in Switzerland; the passion and enthusiasm for this wonderful game is especially prevalent amongst youngsters. Omega is delighted to see, and indeed be part of, this evolution.

Omega is also proud to have two of the world’s top golfers as its partners: South African Ernie Els and Spain’s Sergio Garcia. In a nail biting final two rounds, Garcia managed to hold off some tough competition at the 2005 Omega European Masters to secure a second victory for an Omega ambassador in an Omega tournament (after Ernie Els in 2003).

Just over a week after his victory, Sergio Garcia, who owns a chalet in Crans-Montana, took time out to offer advice to some budding young Swiss golfers. The 18 youngsters qualified for this special day by finishing in the top three in their category in one of the seven Omega Double Eagle Trophy tournaments that were held in Switzerland over the course of the year.

After picking up valuable tips from the master of the driving range in the morning, Switzerland’s future golfing elite then had a unique opportunity that would make most adults envious: the chance for each to play three holes with Garcia on the challenging Severiano Ballesteros course.
