Ellen MacArthur in Amsterdam for Extreme 40 iShares Cup

Amsterdam, 14 September 2007 - Dame Ellen MacArthur was in Amsterdam recently to attend the final leg of the 2007 iShares Cup, the spectacular 40-foot catamaran sailing event that consists of four premier regattas held in Munich, Marseille, Cowes and Amsterdam. Racing takes place close to the shore, giving spectators a close-up view of all the high-speed thrills and spills that the Extreme 40 catamaran class has to offer. Extreme 40 boats are crewed by four sailors, with an exclusive ‘5th man’ spot reserved for VIP guests.

The final leg of the 2007 iShares Cup took place this afternoon in the narrow confines of Amsterdam’s central docks area. Earlier in the day, Dame Ellen joined Extreme 40 skipper Nick Moloney (AUS) and his crew for a tour of the iShares course. Nick and world-class sailor Sebastian Josse (FRA) are both members of “Team Ellen”, which is dedicated to success on the water across a number of disciplines.

In May 2007, Ellen lent her renown and prestige to the 2007 iShares Cup by sailing up the river Thames aboard an Extreme 40 catamaran.  In recent years Ellen has become increasingly involved in issues related to the protection of the environment and corporate social responsibility. Her exemplary professionalism and determination to succeed, along with her innovative thinking, make her an exceptional representative of OMEGA. She has been an OMEGA Ambassador since 2002, before her record-breaking solo journey around the world in 2005.
