Michael Schumacher with Omega at the Dubai Desert Classic

Dubai, February 4th, 2007. As Official Timekeeper for the first time this year of the prestigious golf tournament, the Dubai Desert Classic, Omega has chosen to mark this milestone by inviting 7 times Formula 1 champion and long-term Omega Ambassador Michael Schumacher. Michael joined two Omega Ambassadors already in Dubai Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia.

Mrs. Nayla Hayek, Member of the Board of Directors of the Swatch Group, and Mr. Stephen Urquhart, President of Omega, welcomed Michael at the Omega hospitality lounge in the Emirates Golf Club, where the Swiss prestige watchmaker has also set up an exclusive boutique. Commenting on Michael’s visit, Mr. Urquhart said: “Omega continues to expand its involvement with the world’s top golf championships, and we’re delighted to be here in Dubai for the first time as Official Timekeeper. Two of our brand ambassadors are competing here this weekend, and it’s a real pleasure to have Michael Schumacher join the family for the final day.”

Seven Formula 1 driver championship titles have made Michael Schumacher a legendary figure, and Omega has offered seven of its customers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the man himself. Michael personally presented seven Omega Speedmaster “The Legend” watches to their proud new owners. The Legend is a limited edition of seven watches, each of which has been engraved on the case back with Michael Schumacher’s signature. Michael handed over these seven exclusive timepieces to their owners today, February 4th, 2007 at the Emirates Golf Club.

After lunch at the Omega Hospitality Chalet, Michael Schumacher followed the action of the top players along the course. He ended his visit to the Dubai Desert Classic with the prize giving ceremony, where he presented the title winner of the Dubai Desert Classic with the red gold Omega Constellation Double Eagle.
