2008 is a landmark year for OMEGA. For 160 years our name has been synonymous with excellence and innovation. Since 1848, we have been creating superb watches and making history in areas as diverse as sports timing, space exploration, precision technology, and design.

OMEGA has a remarkable legacy – consider our conquests of space and the oceans’ depths, the Olympic Games, the officially endorsed records and more recently, our active participation in the Solar Impulse project which has been conceived to circumnavigate the globe with a solar-powered aeroplane.

While we are proud of our rich heritage, each new OMEGA watch demonstrates our determination to challenge ourselves. OMEGA’s Co-Axial Escapement was the first practical new watch escapement introduced in nearly 250 years. The OMEGA movement launched last year optimises the advantages of the Co-Axial Escapement; our ability to produce these calibres on an industrial scale confirms that OMEGA remains at watchmaking’s cutting edge. The silicon balance spring in some of our new models offers further evidence that OMEGA is driving the current revolution in mechanical watchmaking.

At BASELWORLD, we are highlighting watches which reflect both our tradition and our pioneering spirit. While every watch produced by OMEGA is created to the highest standards of contemporary horology, we are ever mindful that each of our timepieces is a proud descendent of a noble watchmaking history which can be traced back to 1848.
