OMEGA discovered exactly how many members of the media its Pavilion on the Olympic Green would accommodate when its longest-serving brand ambassador, supermodel Cindy Crawford, made a live appearance on Thursday, 14 August, 2008.
A crush of photographers and television film crews surrounded Crawford as she and OMEGA president Stephen Urquhart took the stage with bilingual moderator Lynn Ding.
The fashion icon Crawford first appeared in OMEGA’s print and television campaigns in 1995 and since then has made numerous personal appearances on behalf of the Swiss watch brand. She was even involved in the design of the Constellation watches she wears, which have famously been promoted as “Cindy’s Choice.”
Stephen Urquhart spoke warmly about the many years OMEGA has worked with the model, saying “Cindy Crawford embodies the qualities and virtues which make her an ideal spokesperson for our brand – she is credible and reliable and she has contributed substantially to OMEGA’s profile as a fashion brand. These have been 13 very happy years.”
Asked about her impressions of Beijing, Cindy Crawford said that she has had the chance to visit the Chinese capital every five years or so. “It makes a completely different impression each time – especially now with the Olympic Games. The contrasts are amazing – it’s an ultramodern, cosmopolitan city but it still has so much which is so traditional and historical.”
Crawford, who is in Beijing with her husband and children, had the opportunity to watch the America’s basketball team’s victory over Angola. They also had the opportunity to see Michael Phelps win two gold medals, “which for us, as Americans, was very special.” Crawford and her family watched the swimming competitions with her fellow OMEGA ambassador Ian Thorpe. “We had our own expert commentary and it was a great way to get a different, inside perspective on the sport,” she said. “And because Ian and Michael are also OMEGA brand ambassadors, it was like watching the family win.”
After their presentation from the OMEGA stage, Stephen Urquhart gave Cindy Crawford a tour of the OMEGA Pavilion where she spent time at the watchmakers’ bench and visiting some of the other exhibits in the display area.
Crawford’s busy day continued with live television interviews at the EuroSport studio located in the OMEGA Pavilion and patient poses for photographers who wanted to record their own images of one of the most famous faces in the world.
