International Space Station Status Report


Expedition 18 Crew

Expedition 18 Crew Busy With Science, Maintenance and Shuttle Preps.


The crew worked with science experiments, performed leak checks and inspected spacewalk tethers Friday.


Flight Engineer Sandra Magnus worked in Japan's Kibo module studying how cosmic radiation affects a specific type of gene. Results of the Rad Gene experiment will have applications for cancer research and immunology.


Flight Engineer Yury Lonchakov performed leak checks between the Pirs docking compartment and the Zvezda service module while consulting with ground specialists.


Commander Mike Fincke inspected tethers in preparation for the upcoming STS-119 mission. The spacewalkers use the tethers to stay connected to the space shuttle and space station at all times.
