Guests of honour include Caterina Murino, Mustapha Larfaoui, Giovanni Malagò and swimmers Massimiliano Rosolino and Alexander Popov
Rome, Foro Italico - 16 July 2009, at 18:00. Caterina Murino, the stunning Italian actress who sprung to international stardom in the James Bond thriller Casino Royale, was a guest of honour at the opening of the OMEGA Boutique in the village of Foro Italico. The multi-lingual beauty was joined by Mustapha Larfaoui, the president of FINA, Giovanni Malagò, the president of the Organizing Committee of Roma09 and Italian swimming superstar Massimiliano Rosolino along with Alexander Popov, former Olympic gold medallist and member of the International Olympic Committee. OMEGA is the Official Timekeeper at Roma09.
The five distinguished guests of honour were welcomed by Stephen Urquhart, the president of OMEGA. Following brief remarks from each of the speakers, Mr. Urquhart declared the boutique to be officially opened and he and his guests performed a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Caterina Murino has worked with OMEGA for nearly three years; she has made appearances at some of the brand’s other boutiques around the world and at the OMEGA Pavilion on the Olympic Green in Beijing. Commenting on the Swiss watchmaker’s long role in sports timekeeping, Ms. Murino said, “OMEGA is famous for its role as timekeeper at some of the most important events in the world, including the Olympic Games. They have always made me feel welcome every time I have worked with them. Now I’m happy to be able to welcome my ‘family’ from OMEGA to Italy!”
Talking about the event, OMEGA president Stephen Urquhart said "All of us at OMEGA are delighted to be here in Italy to celebrate the opening of this boutique which will be welcoming visitors throughout the Championships. And it is particularly gratifying to be here with Giovanni Malagò and Mustapha Larfaoui as we get set for Roma09. OMEGA has a long history with world-class water sports and the great athletes like Massimiliano Rosolino who compete in them. We are looking forward to some new world records at Roma09.”
The President of FINA, Mustapha Larfaoui said "It’s an honour to be here today as Omega’s guest and to witness the work and the professionalism that this company brings to timekeeping and its commitment to making itself available to the organizers, the teams and the athletes."
Giovanni Malagò , President of the Organizing Committee of Roma09, concluded the event saying, “This swimming World Championship will be an unforgettable sporting event and we are proud to have OMEGA serving as Official Timekeeper. The serious dedication and technological expertise placed at our disposal by OMEGA represents truly outstanding performance at an international level.”
