From October 19 to November 30, 2012, OMEGA, presents the (R)Evolution Co-Axial Exhibition at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai. The complex technology displayed at the exhibition highlights the level of precision involved in creating each component and commemorates the revolution in mechanical watchmaking that followed the launch of the Co-Axial escapement.
On October 18, OMEGA held a thematic seminar to unveil the (R)Evolution Co-axial Exhibition at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in the presence of Mr. Stephen Urquhart, President of OMEGA.
“As the only watchmaker named for one of its movements, OMEGA has been re-defining state-of-the-art mechanical watchmaking technology with the spirit of pioneering,” said Mr. Urquhart, “Co-Axial is a perfect example. The ground-breaking technology addressed the problems of lubrication that had perplexed watchmakers for centuries, and signaled a revolution in mechanical watchmaking. Since launching the first series-production Co-Axial escapement in 1999, OMEGA has been dedicated to developing Co-Axial technology. In the years since, we’ve successfully introduced the innovative escapement into every one of our watch lines. Now most of OMEGA’s mechanical watches are equipped with Co-Axial escapement and they achieve chronometric performance standards previously unimagined for series-production mechanical watches. ”
The exhibition is divided into four major sections. A timeline of the Co-Axial escapement, from its introduction to the present day, takes OMEGA enthusiasts and watch connoisseurs through the history of the evolution of the vital component. Visitors can enjoy an informational guided audio tour through the various intricate details of the Co-Axial escapement and Si14 balance spring. The exhibition also includes a 3D holographic display which uses visuals to explain the technical details involved in the Co-Axial escapement.
