International Space Station Status Report

Expedition 32 Crew

Emergency Training, Maintenance for Station Crew.
The three Expedition 32 crew members living and working aboard the International Space Station participated in a emergency drill and performed a variety of maintenance activities Thursday.

Commander Gennady Padalka and Flight Engineers Sergei Revin and Joe Acaba participated in an emergency drill to sharpen the crew’s response to specific emergency cases. In cooperation with mission control centers on the ground, the trio walked through the response procedures and later tagged up with flight controllers to review the results and discuss any needed changes.

Acaba performed maintenance on the Waste Hygiene Compartment in the Destiny laboratory, working to remove and replace the wring collector and piping between the system’s pump separator and the pre-treat and water pump.

Acaba also participated in an in-flight educational event, speaking with students at the Science Museum of Virginia in Richmond, Va.

Padalka and Revin worked in the Russian segment of the orbiting laboratory, monitoring its systems and performing a variety of maintenance activities.

At the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, three additional Expedition 32 flight engineers -- NASA astronaut Suni Williams, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Aki Hoshide and Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko -- attended the traditional flag-raising ceremony on Wednesday and reviewed their flight plan on Thursday. The trio will launch aboard the Soyuz TMA-05M spacecraft from Baikonur on July 14 for a four-month tour of duty aboard the station.
