OMEGA introduces its newest brand ambassador Vanessa-Mae

Violinist and skier Vanessa-Mae was welcomed to the brand ambassador family at the OMEGA House “A Taste of Russia” event

OMEGA welcomed Winter Olympic hopeful Vanessa-Mae and Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Vice President Igor Stolyarov to the OMEGA House on Friday to celebrate the next Winter Olympic Games and the Swiss watchmaker’s role as Official Timekeeper.

Igor Stolyarov announced that the committee is working very hard to keep the plans for the upcoming Olympic Winter Games on track. “I can assure you that like my watch, a Seamaster, which is more than ten years old it has never let me down, and we will never let you down,” he said. Postcards that feature pictures of the OMEGA countdown clock have been incredibly popular among Sochi visitors and residents alike.

World-renowned musician Vanessa-Mae was warmly introduced to the OMEGA brand ambassador family and shared her excitement for representing Thailand at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games in the downhill skiing event. “Sporty, dependable, classy: Those are the words I associate with my OMEGA”, Vanessa-Mae said. “I’m delighted and honoured that OMEGA, who plays such an important and historical role in the Olympics, embraced my originality, my integrity and my challenge.”

She was presented with a good luck gift by Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Vice President Igor Stolyarov on stage.

Vanessa-Mae quickly established herself as a musical prodigy and, by the time she was 13 years old, she had already toured internationally and recorded three classical albums. She then went on to single-handedly kick-start the world of Classical Crossover music, achieving extraordinary success in her musical career as a fiery and fearless performer.

More recently, Vanessa-Mae has decided to devote herself to her second passion and, representing Thailand, is set to qualify for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games – a supreme demonstration of her unparalleled versatility.

OMEGA President Stephen Urquhart looks forward to the next Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and hopes that the brand's new ambassador will have the opportunity to distinguish herself here. “Vanessa-Mae is a remarkable musician who has had an incredible concert career. By choosing this new path, she demonstrates that she has great courage, incredible talent and a sense of adventure – we are very much looking forward to this partnership. All of us at OMEGA are particularly excited about the fact that the next edition of the Olympic Winter Games is going to be contested in Sochi. We’ve already enjoyed extensive contact with the Organizing Committee there and know that this Black Sea resort town is going to distinguish itself with an extraordinary Olympic Winter Games.”

After speeches by OMEGA President Stephen Urquhart, brand ambassador Vanessa-Mae and Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Vice President Igor Stolyarov guests of the OMEGA House enjoyed the celebratory vibe in the OMEGA House Secret Garden while moving to music from DJ Dmitry Strigun.

In 2014, the Russian Federation will host the Olympic Winter Games for the first time in the city of Sochi, located on the shores of the Black Sea near the Caucasus Mountains. Each venue is being built specifically for the Games, which will be held 7 – 23 February 2014.

OMEGA’s timekeeping professionals have worked with the Sochi 2014 Organization Committee from the beginning to ensure that the athletes at the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games have the support that they deserve.
