The brand takes to Switzerland’s St. Moritz mountaintop to time the exhilarating bobsleigh, skeleton and monobob races at the Olympia Bob Run St. Moritz-Celerina from 21 January to 3 February.
Since 21 January, OMEGA has assumed its Official Timekeeping responsibilities at the Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (FIBT) World Championships where the brand will measure, record and display the race times of some of the world’s fastest and most daring athletes in bobsleigh and skeleton events through this weekend.
The international event, which takes place at the Olympia Bob Run St. Moritz-Celerina, Switzerland, features two- and four-man, and two-woman bobsleigh races in addition to men’s and women’s skeleton and OMEGA Monobob Series events.
Originally constructed in 1904, the 1,722-metre Olympia Bob Run St. Moritz-Celerina remains to this day the world’s oldest bobsleigh run and the only natural-ice track still used for international competitions. The St. Moritz/Celerina run offers a unique challenge to athletes, since its surface is unpredictable and varies from year to year.
OMEGA Monobob Series
Participants in the OMEGA Monobob Series reached maximum speeds of 126 km/hour during the competition on 28 January. As the name suggests, each bob has room for only one athlete, making this a unique version of bobsleigh that has attracted a young generation of ambitious men and women. During the race, OMEGA had the opportunity to test its newest timekeeping technology.
The brand began its involvement with monobob in 2011 when it announced its active participation in the development of the fast and dynamic winter sport. OMEGA’s exclusive support of monobob underscores its historic involvement in the world of sports and reaffirms its dedication to competitive athletes all over the world.
In 2002, OMEGA signed a multi-year agreement with FIBT and since then has served as Official Timekeeper and Official Partner of the FIBT World Championships and FIBT World Cup. The brand looks forward to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games where it will also serve as Official Timekeeper for the 26th time since 1932.
