2013 FINA Diving World Series & OMEGA

A major annual event since 2007 and originally organised by host countries China, Great Britain and Mexico, the 2013 edition of the FINA Diving World Series will kick off on 15 March in Beijing’s emblematic National Aquatics Center, more widely known as the “Water Cube”, which was built for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and was one of its most recognizable venues.

As a FINA Official Partner, OMEGA is privileged to provide its data handling services and Official Timekeeping expertise for the first time at each of the six FINA Diving World Series events in Beijing, Dubai, Edinburgh, Moscow, Guadalajara and Mexico City from March through May.

In addition to recording, displaying and distributing the scores of each participating diver, OMEGA will also guide television spectators through the technique and dynamics of each dive with the brand’s Virtual Diving Animations technology.

Virtual Diving Animations:
OMEGA has added animated two-dimensional clips superimposed on television screens in order to demonstrate the ideal performance of an announced dive. With this technology, television viewers can find out what the descriptions of the different parts of each dive mean. Because of the number of classified groups, positions, somersaults and twists, there are more than 200 different animations. Each animated clip begins with a diver in the starting position and lasts throughout the “flight” until the diver enters the water.

OMEGA’s association with FINA began in 1973 at the international federation’s first ever FINA World Championships in Belgrade. Today, OMEGA is an Official Partner and as such serves as Official Timekeeper of the FINA World Championships, FINA Swimming World Cup and, as of 2013, the FINA Diving World Series. OMEGA is also at the service of the world’s most talented young swimmers at the FINA Junior World Championships where we also fill the role of Official Timekeeper.
