Planet Ocean, a 90-minute documentary film directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Michael Pitiot in partnership with OMEGA, had its Italian premiere at a special event in the prestigious palazzo di Ca’ Giustinian in Venice. In attendance were Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Luca Mercalli, a well-known climatologist who narrated the Italian version of the movie.
The Planet Ocean film, which combines spectacular aerial and underwater images, draws on the talents of the world’s leading underwater cinematographers, oceanographers and biologists. It was created to change the way people look at the oceans and to encourage them to imagine conservation and stewardship as responsibilities shared by everyone on earth.
Yann Arthus-Bertrand, one of the world’s best-known environmental activists and filmmakers, said of his partnership with OMEGA: “When OMEGA proposed the Planet Ocean project to me, I accepted almost immediately; it was time to look at things directly, to illustrate and to denounce the dangers threatening our oceans and therefore our planet. This documentary is not intended to moralize, but rather to raise consciousness.”
The event took place in the elegant palazzo di Ca’ Giustinian. Its notable architecture and ornamentation were illuminated in blue and the palace featured an exhibition of pictures taken by Yann Arthus-Bertrand for this film. A hundred invited guests – including journalists, customers and local celebrities – attended the screening.
