OMEGA premieres Planet Ocean in Thailand

OMEGA raises awareness of oceanic conservation with “Treasure of Planet Ocean” event, launch of Planet Ocean documentary and OMEGA’s Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet.

Since 2011, OMEGA has worked alongside GoodPlanet Foundation raising public awareness of our oceans and sharing its dedication to sustainability.

On May 11, OMEGA hosted a “Treasure of Planet Ocean” event with the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (Sector 5, Phuket) and members of the Pa Klok community. Media representatives and VIP guests did their part to preserve the marine ecosystem by releasing a rare breed of fish back into the sea in the Pa Klok Village in the Klang District of Phuket Province.

Other activities at the event included coral cleaning, an underwater photography workshop with renowned Osotho Magazine photographer Baramee Temboonkiat and an exclusive screening of the environmental documentary Planet Ocean, directed by acclaimed filmmaker and environmentalist Yann Arthus-Bertrand. While enjoying the stunning beachside landscape at The Naka Island Phuket, guests were introduced to the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet, a timepiece that honours the positive work GoodPlanet does for our environment and underwater ecosystems.

A highlight of the event was an incredible evening at The Naka Island Phuket beach where David Ponzo, Managing Director of Swatch Group Trading Co., Ltd. and Busara Tantiwarathaworn, Brand Manager of OMEGA (Thailand), presided the event opening and welcomed guests with speeches. Among the guests were celebrities Jiradee and Jay Spencer, Achiraya and Surachet Worawongwasu, Piyada and Sara Jutharattanakul – all of whom share a passion for the oceans.

The night ended with the Planet Ocean OMEGA photo exhibition where guests had the opportunity to look at breath-taking photographs of underwater nature.

Planet Ocean
The 90-minute eco-documentary draws on the talents of some of the world’s leading aerial and underwater cinematographers, oceanographers and biologists, has been created to change the way people look at the oceans and to encourage them to imagine conservation and stewardship as responsibilities shared by everyone on Earth. The film’s world premiere was at the Rio+20 Earth Summit in 2012.

OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet
Inspired by the diversity of the ocean, the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet is presented on either a classic stainless steel bracelet or sporty blue rubber strap. The 43.5 mm brushed and polished stainless steel case features a bold bi-directional rotating bezel. The numerals and division lines on the bezel ring are lacquered in orange and match the orange aluminium accents on the lacquered blue dial and the orange aluminium-fashioned GMT hand.

OMEGA has committed a portion of the proceeds from this Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet to fully funding a project to preserve the mangroves and seagrasses in Southeast Asia and educating the local population about the conservation of these important natural resources that are such a critical part of a balanced eco-system.

Like the other pieces in OMEGA’s Planet Ocean collection, this wristwatch is water resistant to 6 bar (600 metres / 2000 feet).
