OMEGA premieres Planet Ocean in Australia

On Wednesday 5th June, OMEGA Australia hosted a private screening and exhibition of the new Planet Ocean film at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney in time for World Ocean’s Day on 8th June.

To celebrate this collaboration with GoodPlanet Foundation, the 90-minute documentary was shown to a large group of local media, members from environmental groups and VIP guests from the brand’s boutiques with the aim of changing the way people look at the oceans and to encourage conservation and stewardship as responsibilities shared by everyone on Earth.

Directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Michael Pitiot, who both introduced the movie virtually to the audience, draws on the talents of some of the world’s leading aerial and underwater cinematographers, oceanographers and biologists.

One of these key contributors, Mr David Hannan, an Australian underwater cinematographer who provided 20 minutes of reef footage to the final edit was present on the night to reinforce the key message of the documentary. Speaking of his involvement, Mr Hannan said. “Being able to contribute my sequences on coral reefs that have been woven together so beautifully with Yann’s magnificent artistry of the air and Michael’s haunting narrative has been a great privilege and honour”.

“Planet Ocean is an amazing and unique film that has the power to change the way humanity views the ocean world” he concluded.

During the evening, guests also had the opportunity to look at breath-taking photographs of underwater nature taken by Yann Arthus-Bertrand as part of an exhibition especially flown to Australia from GoodPlanet Foundation in Paris.

In addition, the GoodPlanet Planet Ocean Limited Edition was launched and displayed to help promote the film. OMEGA has committed a portion of the proceeds from the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet towards Good Planet Foundation and their ongoing efforts towards conservation and sustainability.

The film, which premiered at Earth Summit 2012 in Rio de Janeiro last June, will be made available free of charge to any interested NGO in order to ensure that it reaches the widest possible audience.
