With a light breeze blowing, players took to the course at Emirates Golf Club for the final day of the OMEGA Dubai Ladies Masters 2013. In one of the most dramatic final rounds in the tournament’s history, Pornanong Phatlum of Thailand narrowly defeated Stacy Lewis by a stroke to win the sixth edition of the prestigious golfing event, finishing at 15 under par.
It was a nail-biting finish. The 24-year-old Bangkok native trailed Stacy Lewis by a stroke after 16 holes but birdied the 17th, which put her in a tie with atop the leaderboard. She then birdied the 18th hole for the tournament championship.
Shanshan Feng, the defending champion who is, like Stacy Lewis, an Omega ambassador, finished in fifth place in spite of a four-over-par first round.
In addition to her championship check, Pornanong Phatlum was presented with an elegant OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra Co-Axial 34mm featuring an 18K red gold case and leather strap.
Raynald Aeschlimann, OMEGA Vice President and Director of International Sales, said of the win, “It has been a great edition of the OMEGA Dubai Ladies Masters, with all golfers playing amazingly and creating a wonderful atmosphere. On behalf of OMEGA, I would like to congratulate Pornanong Phatlum on this triumphant win, and wish her many more great rounds of golf. We also hope she will get great use out of her brand new Seamaster Aqua Terra Co-Axial.”
OMEGA and golf – a global legacy
For years, golf sponsorship has been a vital part of OMEGA's brand strategy and the famous watchmaker’s name is associated with some of the sport’s best events. OMEGA's partnership with The PGA of America makes the Swiss watch brand the Official Timekeeper at the Association’s great events including the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup when it is contested in the United States. OMEGA is the title sponsor of the European Masters, contested each year in Switzerland, and of both the Dubai Desert Classic and the Dubai Ladies Masters, two of the most prestigious sporting events in the Middle East.
OMEGA will be on hand as Official Timekeeper in 2016 when golf returns to the Olympic Games for the first time in more than a century. Its inclusion in the world's highest-profile sporting event boldly proclaims that golf is truly ranked among the world's global sports.
