OMEGA to celebrate Canada’s Sochi 2014 gold medallists at Vancouver Boutique

It’s hard to believe that more than four years have passed since Vancouver and Whistler hosted the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. For Canadians, it was a defining edition of the world’s highest-profile sporting event and the recent Games in Sochi brought back incredible memories, not only of February 2010, when the entire world visited British Columbia, but of the Canadian athletes whose performances helped make the event so successful.

Some of the Canadian athletes who won gold medals in Sochi were celebrated at a special event at the OMEGA Boutique in Vancouver on Thursday, April 10.

Four of Canada’s best – speed skater Charles Hamelin, curling skip Jennifer Jones and bobsleigh specialists Heather Moyse and Kailie Humphries – joined OMEGA staff, media and VIP customers at the brand’s boutique at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

Charles Hamelin, the short track speed skater, has won a total of four Olympic medals – two gold in Vancouver and one in Sochi, along with a silver medal in Turin in 2006. He is also a two-time world champion in the 500-metres.

Jennifer Jones has become one of the country’s leading sports figures after captaining the women’s curling team to a gold medal in Sochi. She is the first skip to take her team through an Olympic Winter Games undefeated.

Heather Moyse and Kaillie Humphries won back-to-back Olympic gold medals in the women’s two-man bobsleigh competitions in Vancouver and Sochi.  Kaillie has also won two World Championships in 2012 and 2013.

OMEGA has a global reputation both for its quality timepieces and as Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games, a role it has assumed 26 times since 1932. On Thursday evening, OMEGA presented each of the four gold medallists a Seamaster Diver 300M “Vancouver 2010” Limited Edition wristwatch to honour their outstanding performances.

OMEGA president Stephen Urquhart said that his brand was privileged to be associated with such prominent and inspiring Olympic athletes adding, “It’s wonderful to be able to celebrate their success in this city that has so many great Olympic memories for all of us at OMEGA and for everyone who is passionate about winter sport.”
