OMEGA celebrates partnership with Orbis in Jinan

Flying Eye Hospital takes high-quality eye care around the world

Today OMEGA welcomed small groups of media to visit Orbis International’s Flying Eye Hospital at the Jinan Airport. Orbis is a world leader in the fight against treatable and preventable blindness and has taken high-quality eye care to 90 countries, including some of the remotest regions on Earth. OMEGA announced its sponsorship of Orbis to support its remarkable mission in January 2011.

The Flying Eye Hospital is, as its name suggests, jumbo jet that has been converted to include an operating theatre and a training facility where the Orbis team can offer instruction to local health care professionals who can, in tern, serve their own communities.

Following the visit to the plane, a press conference featuring Managing Director of Orbis International North Asia Mr. George Smith, an OMEGA representative and and OMEGA friend Charlie Young was organized. They spoke about the partnership between Orbis and OMEGA.

In the evening, there was a special charity dinner at the Sofitel in Jinan featuring a watch auction. Prior to the watch auction, former Orbis patients and their families, along with Orbis doctors, shared their insights about the remarkable organization on the work it does and how it has changed the lives of all those involved.

The OMEGA De Ville Hour Vision Blue wristwatch used in auction at the charity dinner is a special edition of the stunning Hour Vision. It has a 360° see-through case-body which is set in a robust 41 mm stainless steel outer case. The Hour Vision Blue is equipped with OMEGA’s Co-Axial calibre 8500, the movement that signalled a revolution in series-produced mechanical watchmaking. The self-winding watch is an officially certified chronometer, a testimony to its precision and performance.
