South African swimming sensation Chad Le Clos arrived in Nanjing on Tuesday to enjoy the 2014 Youth Olympic Games (YOG).
The young star is no stranger to the YOG – he won five medals at the inaugural edition of the Games in Singapore in 2010 and then became a gold medallist at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Le Clos, who was welcomed into the brand’s family of ambassadors in 2012, is also an ambassador for the YOG where OMEGA will serve as Official Timekeeper.
"The Youth Olympic Games were a huge stepping stone for me"
Speaking about his important role as Youth Olympic Games ambassador, the 22-year-old swimmer said, "The Youth Olympic Games were a huge stepping stone for me and helped me enormously in preparing for the pressures of my first Olympic Games in London. But more than the sport, the memories and friends that I made will last forever, and I’m excited to be part of the YOG experience once again."
"Chad is a tireless advocate for swimming"
OMEGA president Stephen Urquhart praised Le Clos for his passion for his sport and his commitment to encouraging young athletes. "Chad consistently demonstrates that he is not only a remarkable swimmer but is also a tireless advocate for swimming and an inspiration to the dedicated young men and women who are inspired by the success he has enjoyed at the Youth Olympic Games, the Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games. We are proud that he is a part of our team."
A busy day in Nanjing
The popular young swimmer visited the Countdown Clock for a photo session before walking to OMEGA’s Xin Jie Kou Boutique. At the flagship store, Le Clos posed for more photographs, autographed an OMEGA watch box and chatted with visitors and members of the media. Afterwards, he went to OMEGA's Deji Boutique where he posed for pictures with some VIP guests. His busy day continued with a dinner at OMEGA's Youth Olympic Games Hospitality Lounge where he joined by OMEGA's management and introduced to the guests.
The evening finished with an after-dinner party where Le Clos spoke with guests about the Youth Olympic Games and his medal successes at the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
