New OMEGA Speedmaster Limited Edition honors 45th anniversary of first lunar landing with exhibition of OMEGA Speedmaster legacy

OMEGA, the Swiss luxury watch brand, celebrated the 45th anniversary of the first lunar landing with the launch of OMEGA Speedmaster Professional "Apollo 11 45th Anniversary Limited Edition" at an extravagant “Moonwatch” event at Siam Paragon’s Parc Paragon. Highlights included “The Greatest Time at the Hall of Legacy” exhibition, narrating the illustrious history of the OMEGA Speedmaster series.

Invited guests were treated to a sumptuous, exclusive dinner under the sparkling stars with soothing music from Thailand’s top artists, singer Jennifer Kim and saxophonist Koh Mr Saxman, who performed at the event.

On July 21, 1969, two NASA astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, became the first human beings ever to set foot on the surface of a celestial body. The feat has been described as one of mankind’s crowning technological achievements and OMEGA was literally on hand on this historic occasion.

Buzz Aldrin had an OMEGA Speedmaster Professional chronograph strapped around his spacesuit, while Neil Armstrong had left his own Speedmaster aboard the Lunar Landing Module as a reliable backup to the electronic timekeeping system.

To commemorate the 45th anniversary of lunar landing, The Moonwatch event featured a gigantic “space dome” in the middle of Parc Paragon to express the legacy of the OMEGA Speedmaster through “The Greatest Time at Hall of Legacy” exhibition. Attending guests and celebrities included Chaiyuth Osathanont, Dermpan Yuwittaya, ML Apichit Wuttichai, Apasiri Thephassadin na Ayutthaya, Chailadon and Rattaporn Chokwattana, Changnoi and Wista Kunchorn na Ayutthaya, ML Ayuth Chaiyant and daughter Hatai Chaiyant na Ayutthaya.

The guests were thrilled to experience the historic moment of mankind with the VTR screening of the launch of Apollo 11 into space to explore the moon.

The OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Apollo 11 45th Anniversary Limited Edition wristwatch features a 42 mm completely brushed grey grade 2 titanium case with a touch of gold, colours recalling the Landing Module. It sports a brown coated nylon fabric strap which was inspired by the NATO straps that have equipped the timepieces issued to military personnel since the Second World War. Only 1,969 models of this timepiece have produced, reflecting the momentous year of the Apollo 11 mission.

The Speedmaster Professional Apollo 11 45th Anniversary Limited Edition wrist watch is equipped with the calibre 1861, a manual-winding chronograph movement. It is offered with a two-year warranty and a special presentation box. This remarkable timepiece is water resistant to 5 bar (50 metres / 167 feet).

The screw-in caseback is embossed with the iconic Seahorse emblem and the outer circle is engraved in black with “FLIGHT QUALIFIED BY NASA FOR ALL MANNED SPACE MISSIONS”, “THE FIRST WATCH WORN ON THE MOON” and “APOLLO 11, 45th ANNIVERSARY, LIMITED EDITION, 0000/1969”.
