Beautiful Alpine weather and outstanding golf on day one of the OMEGA European Masters

On a day that offered perfect weather for the players and fans in Crans-Montana Switzerland, the OMEGA European Masters golf tournament got off to a great start on Thursday.

After the first round of play, Scotsman Richie Ramsay and Italian Eduardo Molinari were atop the leaderboard at 8 under par. Tommy Fleetwood, Gareth Maybin and Graeme Storm were two strokes behind and another seven players were tied for sixth at five under par.

Ramsay, who was the 2012 Omega European Masters winner, threw down the gauntlet early as he eagled the first and birdied the next two holes to start the round. He said, “Four under through three holes was a nice way to start. I hit a great six iron into the first and then two more good iron shots into the next two, so I was flying at that point. It gave me a great boost and I managed to pick off a few more birdies after that.”

The pleasant weather has been forecast to continue throughout the weekend, promising further excellent play and ideal conditions for the spectators. The OMEGA European Masters always draws an impressive international field and more than a dozen countries were represented in the top 20 on the leaderboard after the first day of play. Round two begins on Friday at 7:40 a.m. Central European Time.
