David Lipsky claims first European Tour championship at OMEGA European Masters

After 72-holes of play in Crans-Montana, England’s Graeme Storm and American David Lipsky were tied at 18 under par atop the leaderboard. Storm bogeyed the first playoff hole and Lipsky, who parred it, was the OMEGA European Masters 2014 champion.

Along with the Omega European Masters trophy and his winner’s cheque, David Lipsky was presented an OMEGA Aqua Terra GMT Co-Axial wristwatch by OMEGA president Stephen Urquhart. Mr. Urquhart said, “This has been an incredible week of golf and David Lipsky is a worthy winner. We are proud that the European Masters has its first American champion for 29 years. The OMEGA European Masters is co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours and it is exciting that David qualified to play here through the Asian Tour. It says a lot about the global status of this great sport.”

The final round was thrilling with frequent changes on the leaderboard. In fact, after 16 holes, five players were within a stroke of the lead.

The winner’s watch
David Lipsky’s OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra GMT is part of the brand’s popular Aqua Terra collection. Its distinctive dial recalls the teakwood decks of luxury sailboats. In addition to its central hour, minute and seconds hands, there is also a GMT hand that completes one rotation around the dial every 24 hours, making it easy to keep track of the time in different time zones – ideal for professional golfers. It is powered by the OMEGA Co-Axial calibre 8605, which can be seen through the certified chronometer’s transparent caseback.

OMEGA and the oldest golf tournament on the European continentThe OMEGA European Masters tournament is steeped in history and tradition and the 2014 edition was particularly memorable.  The European Masters is played on one of the world's most beautifully situated golf courses. In an awe-inspiring Alpine setting in beautiful late summer weather, spectators had the chance to see a tournament whose past winners have included Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and the late Seve Ballesteros, to name but a few.
