Celebrating the chronograph of cosmonauts

OMEGA's iconic watch is honoured at a 60th Anniversary event in Moscow, which a special Speedmaster exhibition and screening of "First Time", attended by film stars and space legends.

The evening at Moscow's Vremena Goda Gallery began with a video message from the legendary cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, along with Eugeniy Mironov, the actor who plays him in the film "First Time".

Though it's well known that the Speedmaster was the first watch on the moon, a story not so often told is the part it played in the thawing of cold war tensions. Alexei Leonov wore a Speedmaster during the legendary handshake in space at the time of the historic "Apollo-Soyuz" flight on July 15, 1975.

The space theme was explored further with an open discussion that included journalist and TV host Ksenia Sobchak and actress Alexandra Ursulyak, who plays Alexei Leonov's wife in the film.

Bringing their real-life insights to the discussion were active cosmonaut Yuri Gidzenko, who spent a total of 329 days in space; and Yelena Serova, who was the first female Russian cosmonaut to visit the International Space Station.

Guests also enjoyed a tour of the Speedmaster exhibition, hosted by the brand’s friend - actress Victoria Isakova. The exhibition featured a retrospective of the most famous OMEGA chronographs including photographs of the sixty brightest Speedmaster models, from the very first "Broad Arrow" released in 1957 to the novelties of 2017.

After the tour OMEGA's guests were treated to a pre-premiere of the film "First Time", which tells the story of Alexei Leonov and fellow cosmonaut Pavel Belyaev and the world’s first spacewalk.
